About South Indian Dances In South India all forms of arts have a sacred origin and the inner experience of the soul finds its highest expression in music and dance. The South Indian attitude towards art has been an expression of the inner beauty of divine brought into close connection with religion. The origin of the dances in South India can be traced back to the pre-historic periods that is even before to the Vedic times. There were many forms of dances in the ancient times. The oldest book available on drama is the Natya Shastra defines drama as something comprising speech, dance and music. Similarly, the Ramayana and Mahabharatha also refer to the dance in those days. Even in the temples the hero used to be a dancer. The cult of Lord Shiva gave new significance to the dances in south India. So dances in South India dates back to the earliest possible times.
Kalaignar Karunanidhi - Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Kalaignar Karunanidhi is one of the founder members of DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), political party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He is also the chief of DMK from the death of C.N. Annadurai in 1969 till date. He has been the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for five times (1969-71, 1971-74, 1989-91, 1996-2001 and 2006- till date). He holds the record of winning every election that he fought in his political career spanning more than 60 years . He led the UPA in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry to win all the 40 Parliament seats in the 2004 Parliament elections.
